The Importance of IT at Mission Fed

Banking/Personal Finance, General Information

person drawing in a notebook that says online securitySecurity is one of the most important functions of any establishment you trust with your money, and Mission Federal Credit Union’s (Information Technology) IT Department takes the safekeeping of your money seriously. Online banking has become second nature to many of us, and while it is often more secure than traditional banking, it does require an increase in safety measures and security technologies to make sure your online banking interactions are protected. Here are some of the safeguards Mission Fed has in place to help you feel secure banking with us.

Protecting your money is a priority at Mission Fed, so we’ve built in proactive security technologies to prevent attempts to get your information or funds. We use firewalls to protect against hackers, identity theft and any malicious programs that may impact security. In addition, we use modern encryption methods for Online and Mobile Banking to help keep your username, password and confidential information safe. Financial fraud is often possible because of unprotected information, so at Mission Fed, we do everything we can to protect your information.

We also subscribe to security industry alerts, so we can stay up to date on any threats to banking technology and can address them quickly and accurately. If there’s been an uptick in credit card fraud in the area, we’ll know about it and address it right away. We perform a security audit on our own systems annually, closing any gaps we may find and keeping our technology up to date. Additionally, Mission Fed only works with vendors that perform security audits, and we review those security audits so we can continue to defend your financial safety with banking technology you can trust.

While Mission Fed’s IT Department is working hard to keep our security protections in place, there are things you can do to help our safety measures work even better. For Online Banking, use a username and password that are unique to the site and don’t discernibly belong to you. Make usernames and passwords a mix of upper and lower case letters with numbers and special characters incorporated so they’re not easy to guess. It’s also a good idea to change your passwords yearly. If you do any Online Banking on your phone, tablet or laptop, avoid using public Wi-Fi to access it, as hackers are able to access devices using the same Wi-Fi network. Finally, make sure you log out any time you bank online to minimize the likelihood of financial fraud.

Mission Fed is committed to keeping your money and your information safe.
